I would support enlisting both young women and young men into this 'defence force reserve' program but with some improvement in the training content.
The program should aim at training for defence of the nation in more ways than just with forces and weapons. We have immediate threat from the Internet and digital machines (cyberwars/cybersecurity); trade and finance; cultures and cults; ethnics and religions; ... terrorist attacks,...
These threats will require serious defence to counter and to manage to uphold the nation's security and sovereignity. The more we have seriously trained defence reservists, the more we can minimise our risks.
The same argument goes for our national enlistment (of young men) program. They are not enlisted to do petty jobs to serve petty officers. They are defence force reservists and must be trained and respected for their role. Make them strong, adept and proud defence reservists and citizens - our nation will benefit a lot more.
