I will welcome a 2-weeks flood now - after 8 months of drought (in some places after a few years of drought!). The Nile plains in Egypt, the Mekhong delta,... get rejuvinated every year with floods. Living with floods is our problems - not the floods themselves. We just don't think enough about floods, don't design and/or build for floods, don't prepare and/or train for floods.
I also wish we can 'harness floods' (water and nutrients) for some use in dry time.
About the benefits of trees (forests of plants and wildlife - in a word 'ecology'), we have a lot writing and evidence that we and multitude of lives depend on trees. Yet more and more people believe they depend on money (human economy). Once day, when the world only have money but not a tree, we will eat money-salad, money stir-fry, real-one-pounder burger,... then we'd know we can't live without trees.
More evidence is not really needed, but how do we make more people understand the evidence we have now?
