I would use 'calculate' for willful 'evaluation' based on mathematic/scientific reasoning and methods; 'reckon' for 'thoughtful' evaluation based on past experience or tacit knowledge; and 'guess' for 'quick' evaluation based on feeling or preference not supported by evidence.
