I can still feel the pain and disappointment. Some 2 years ago I went looking 'ancient gardens' and 'ancient trees' in Thailand. From West to East, the oldest tree I found was a lone toddy palm (ตาล about 80+ years old) at Pimai (Vimaya) stone 'praasaat'. All trees and gardens were destroyed in restoration! (Archeologists see stones more important than plants?)

I think only safe place for Bodhi trees is in wats. (And I was told about one Bodhi tree in Prachin-buri - supposed to have been brought from Srilanka with the dhamma mission to Siam 200 years ago has been 'burned' down by worshipers' lit up jossticks and candles! The one in its place now is a schion off the old bodhi tree, planted only 20 years ago.)
