Thank you ดร. ธวัชชัย ปิยะวัฒน์ for sharing your father experience.
It is hard to get up and go all the way alone. Co-operatives has more power and resources but a co-operative is also quite hard to set up and get going. I wish I can learn more.
Thank you สามสัก(samsuk) for your kind words.
I somehow give unintended idea that I made complaints against lack of government's action or attention. That may be very true government after government.
But I really meant to sell the idea to growers that we can do more, sell more processed coconuts. or perhaps at co-operative of growers level.
This idea is put in Gotoknow to encourage more "idea generators" like you and many others to look at facts: we get ($385) less per ton for our dry coconut than what Indonesia gets ($470); we don't export coconut oil or desiccated coconut (which is more or less shredded dry-er coconut at $870/ton)-- twice the price of our copra.) Surely, shredding and drying cleanly is worth ($870 - $385 = $485 per ton) doing. This means jobs and opportunities for people and it also means more striving to help ourselves getting installed among ourselves.
We must learn self-reliance before we learn self-sufficiency.
