Is there a reason for "...การกวาดนั้นทำเป็นขยักๆ..."?

I wonder if the salt pan (salt field) is not flat and smooth, would the collecting plough mix clay into salt?

The funny way they rake up salt, is it to shake salt off clay when the salt pan is not completely flat and smooth? Any salt farmer out there wants to enlighten us, please?
