Time Procedure Materials
10 -15 mins 1.  Procedure (Parts of Speech)      Lead in Stage (10 – 15 minutes)  
  1. Engage trainees by giving each of them 
            a  sentence with an underlined Part of Speech            (Handout 1)             e.g. The tall man ran very  fast.                                     The tall man ran very  fast.
  1. The trainees get into groups (nouns, verbs, adjectives,
 adverbs, determiners, prepositions, pronouns, conjunctions, exclamations) according to the underlined words in their sentence.      3.   Each group discusses the function of the part of speech   they’ve got and present this to the class. (Definition/Usage)

20 mins    Showing Stage  Handout 2    (20 minutes)         4. Provide handout 2 (pages 1 and 2). Each group is allocated 5 sentences.  They must put the words from  their sentences on page 1 into the correct categories in  the table on page 2.         5. Trainees mingle to complete as much of the table as               they can in 10 minutes. ( They can then do the rest for              homework.)  Handout 2
5-10mins   Throwing Stage  (5 - 10 minutes)       6. Trainees do the TKT practice task on page 9 of the             TKT course book.       7. Trainees check their answers in the key and discuss              any problems. TKT Course Book P. 9
5mins. 2. Procedure (Grammatical Structures)Lead in Stage (5 minutes)
  1. Trainees match the Term, Form and Use of each given grammatical structure. e.g.- Before the training the trainer will have copied and cut up the activity which is taken from the table on page 6 of the TKT Course book.
2.  Check their answers in the book.

      3.  Trainees do the exercises 6-10 about grammatical

           structures. (Task TKT Module 1 Practice Test  No.6-10,    

           P.75-76) and then check the answers in the key.

Trainees work in groups of 3-4 to write 2 similar test          questions to those in the previous stage about specific            grammatical points that they have been given.  e.g.                             Group A  1. Would rather        Group B.  1.Past Simple Tense2. Should                                   2. Let’s  We use  “would rather”  to ………  a.   b.  c.    5.  Groups swap their test questions and do another group’s test. ( 5 minutes)  Trainer will need to make up grammar point cards to hand out to the groups prior to the session. 
 20mins. 3.  Procedure (Word Formation) 
  1. Trainees read the first paragraph on page 7 of the TKT Course book to understand the concept of prefixes and suffixes. (10 minutes)
  2. Trainees discuss in groups:
      - What is a prefix/suffix?- Give examples of prefixes/suffixes.      3.   Go back to Handout 2 page 2 and underline any prefixes             and suffixes they find in the sentences. (10 minutes)            e.g.  Swimming is a good exercise.
