These adjectives mean having or showing

a belief in and veneration for Godor a divine power,

especially as it is reflected in the practice of religion.

Religious implies adherence to religion

in both belief and practice:

Religious is a general word,

Devout indicates a fervent spirit, usually genuine and often independent of outward observances:

Pious implies constant attention to, and extreme conformity with, outward observances.
