‘to start’ ‘to originate’ ‘to cause to come into being’ เช่น
“Come on, let’s begin the meeting.”

โดยที่ COMMENCE มีความหนักแน่น มากกว่า ในการ เสนอแนะ “การริเริ่ม”
ของ การกระทำ ที่เริ่มขึ้น โดย บางคน หรือ พลังบางประการ
ยังเป็น คำที่ใช้ เป็นทางการ มากกว่า BEGIN เช่น
“The prosecuting attorney will commence proceeding in the trial.”

สามารถใช้ “’infinitive TO หรือ รูป “-ing” ตามหลัง STARTและ BEGIN

‘We began talking about our experiences.’
ข้อควรระวัง:
อย่าใช้ รูป “-ing” ตามหลังคำ “starting”หรือ “beginning”
เช่น อย่าใช้ “I’m beginning understanding more.”
ต้องใช้ว่า “I’m beginning to understand more.”
สามารถใช้ “begin” และ “start” เป็น “intransitive verb”
ใช้เพื่อกล่าวว่า “บางสิ่ง เกิดขึ้น จากเวลาหนึ่ง” เช่น
‘The snow starts at 7.’
‘My career as a journalist was about to begin.’
คำ START มีความหมายพิเศษ บางประการ
ที่ไม่อาจแทนที่ได้ด้วย “begin” ในความหมาย เหล่านี้
โดยใช้ “start” เพื่อกล่าวว่า
“บางคน ทำให้ เครื่องจักร/เครื่องยนต์ เริ่มทำงาน” เช่น
‘She started her car and drove off.’
