การใช้ indefinite articles “A” และ “AN”
ปกติใช้ “an” นำหน้า คำที่ ออกเสียงเหมือนเสียง สระ
โดยไม่คำนึงถึง ว่าสะกดคำนั้นแบบใด
เช่น “an honor” ออกเสียง “on-er”
“an hour” ออกเสียง “ou-er”
“an heir” ออกเสียง “air”
ส่วน คำนำหน้า ที่ออกเสียง พยัญชนะ
ถึงแม้ไม่เน้นที่คำนั้น ให้ใช้ “a” นำหน้า เช่น
เช่น “a historic” ออกเสียง “hi-stor-ik”
“a horrific” ออกเสียง “haw-rif-ik”
“a hotel” ออกเสียง “hoh-tel”

May I add some details?
People say ‘an’ F, ‘an’ L,… M, N, R, S, X when they mean a single letter E/F/… on top the vowels A, E, I, O. Eg. an Afternoon, an evergreen tree,… ;-)
But they say ‘a’ U, a W (double you), a YES, a NO, a MAYBE, a SO-AND-SO, a NEVER,… a university, a xylophone,… ;-)
