อธิบาย การใช้ “ashamed” ออกเสียง “uh-sheymd”

ว่า ใช้ “ashamed” เมื่อ มีความรู้สึก เสียใจ “ในบางสิ่ง ที่ได้ทำผิดไป” เช่น

‘He upset Dad, and he feels a bit ashamed.’

‘They were ashamed to admit that they had lied.’

สามารถกล่าวว่า บางคน “is ashamed of” บางสิ่ง หรือ

“ashamed of” themselves เช่น

‘Jen feels ashamed of the lies she told.’

‘I was ashamed of myself for getting so angry.’

‘It’s nothing to be ashamed of.’

ถ้าคุณ “embarrassed”

ออกเสียง เน้นพยางค์ สอง “em-bar-uh s”

หมายถึง “คุณกังวลว่า ‘ผู้คนจะหัวเราะเยาะ’ คุณ” หรือ

“คิดว่าคุณ เซ่อซ่า น่าหัวเราะ” เช่น

‘He looked a bit embarrassed when he noticed his mistake.’

‘She had been too embarrassed about singing in public.’

ข้อควรระวัง:

อย่าใช้ “of” ในประโยค เช่นนี้

เช่น อย่าใช้ว่า “He seemed embarrassed of the question.’

ตามปกติ ใช้ “ashamed of” ใน วลี เช่น

“I am ashamed of myself.” (หรือ of them หรือ ‘their deed’)

ขณะที่ใช้ “ashamed for” แต่เพียง เมื่อ

อ้างอิงถึง “บางคน ที่ควรเป็น” แต่ไม่ ละอายตนเอง เช่น

นอกจากนี้ ยังใช้ “ashamed” ได้กับ “that” และ “to” เช่น
