This new open online website was introduced to the study tour pariticpants during our MIT visit. OPENPediatrics was started by a pediatrician at Boston Children's Hospital and it won the MITX visionary award. It is designed to be a knowledge sharing website with social network for pediatricians to learn from each other. The initial focus seems to be on pediatric critical care (PICU). It has a number of interesting resources available to registered users during their beta-testing phase. Supported by IBM, they will include videos, calculators, tools, simulations, as well as guided learning modules for advance training in specific specialties to allow pediatricians from any where in the world to learn and improve themselves.

Coming out of Boston, how relevant will these tools and resource be for pediatricians from developing countries may still to be seen. But I guess the key advantage will probably be the links they can make with other pediatricians from many countries. The site is still in its beta phase and they are recruiting the first 1,000 beta testers. Official launch is expected later this year according to the website.
