On March 15, 2011, the Human Capital Development Sub-committee led by Prof. Dr. Chira Hongladarom took a study visit to AIT.
It was a great honor to have Assoc. Prof. Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology chairing the study visit and discussion, Dr. Sununta Siengthai and Mr. Vickrant Gurung representing Dean of School of Management and welcoming the Human Capital Development Sub-committee.
Prof. Dr. Chira Hongladarom presented background about the Human Capital Development Sub-committee and reported the work progress.
In this discussion, there were many suggestions from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as follows.
- In ASEAN, Thailand has more developed educational sector so the plan should put Thailand as ASEAN education hub.
- The plan should include nurturing the manufacturing sector capacity building.
- The plan should promote social business and social enterprises because business should be measured based on money and contribution they make to the society.
- There should be linkage between the educational degree and the direct application of the knowledge to the society.
- The students need more innovative internship and learn more experience from business.
- Thais’ English skill should be improved to compete with other countries.
- Thais need financial literacy.
- Teachers must be able to have inter-disciplinary teaching skill.
- There should be IT Sub-committee in the plan.
- Research should be commercialized.
- Thailand should produce low-cost technology which can be affordable to larger groups of people and can solve the social problems.
- AIT can make contribution in term of social business and putting technology in hand.
