Population census not concern much in health just concern about number of population, age to do pyramid, Thailand do census every ten year.

For health survey we have to prepare the proper equipment. We do National Health Survey every 4 or 5 years, because of it was a complex survey.

 How to select samples?

Sampling by National statistic department to list name of 60 peoples in a village.

  • Total name list 30 names for each age & sex
  • Find 15 peoples from list if can find everyone from list and confirm appointment (complete)
  • If not, find other people from page 2 & 3

Who are the target people?

  • Children 0-5 years (15 peoples)
  • Children 6-14 years (15 peoples)
  • Adult 15-59 years (15 peoples)
  • Elderly > 60 years (15 peoples)

Objectives

  1. To asses wealth : House, Property (washing machine, refrigerator, TV), water, toilet etc.(by health volunteer)
  2. To asses health status by physical exam and questionnaire: Physical (such as eye sight), Mental, well being
  3. To asses Behavior (Social & physical risk :Alcohol drink, Helmet used)

Method in the field – when we arrived the place to do survey in village (such as temple, PCU, hospital, school, college, village center, hotel, and tent) then we prepares flow of survey – table for register, blood exam, interview place, physical exam place, waiting place.

  1. Find target samples (by health staff and volunteers)
  2. Pre-survey & Iodine test kit (in salt)
  3. Appointment with document (letter, consent form, place, time, NPO in adult only)
  4. Registration (with)
    1. Check name from name list, consent, pre survey form (staff give it to team in village)
    2. ID card (born card or house registration), urine in the container, (by target population)
    3. Use queuing card for children, adult and elder in different color.
    4. Take sticker code to blood tube and questionnaire (number in sticker code definite region (northeast), province and ID)
    5. Blood exam for sample people > 15 years – keep and carry blood tube to laboratory in provincial level hospital.
    6. Prepare breakfast and snack for sample.
    7. Physical exam – blood pressure measurement after arrive and rest and do other measurement   (Time walk, lung function test, hand grip etc.)
    8. Interview - use  questionnaire by well trained research assistant (train how to do the correct way for correct data)
    9. Check questionnaire to correct mistake and complete it before leave and give some advice (Health education) and gift to sample people.
    10. Meeting with research assistant after work (every evening) to discuss about some problem that happened during working time to fine out the best solution and adjust for next day.

Project administration

  • Head of KKU team go to meeting with staff in provincial level to tell the objective and method of survey to make plan and coordination in each province.
  • Plan for each province and each village when and how to go to each area.
  • Manage for accommodation, food, van for team (Think about more than 10 staffs live together how they can enjoy working together with love and spirit, it will make our work successful.) 
  • Office coordinator is important to manage paperwork, telephone call to make an appointment, prepare and check some equipment and questionnaires, coordinator with the headquarter office in Bangkok and cooperate with Head and secretary of KKU team.
  • Keep and check questionnaires and send it to NHS office in Bangkok.
