November 14, 2008 at the Bangkok City Hall, Thailand.
The World Tipiṭaka Recitation Ceremony was organised in esteemed homage to the late Princess Galyani Vadhana, His Majesty the King's elder sister, whose dedication to the people and the nation was immense and well-known both in Thailand and abroad.
HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana was the Founding Honorary President and Royal Patron of the World Tipiṭaka Project which published the Pāḷi Tipiṭaka from the 40-volume Great International Council Edition, for the first time in the Roman script, in Bangkok in 2005.
The World Tipiṭaka Recitation Ceremony was organised by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the M.L.Maniratanta Bunnag Dhamma Society Fund under the Patronage of His Holiness Somdet Phra Ñāṇasaṃvara, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand.
In order to make it possible for people all over the country to participate in the Tipiṭaka Recitation, the Tipiṭaka Recitation Manual was published and distributed nationwide. A multi-media and personalised technology, particularly a mobile phone technology will be used to facilitate the practice of recitation in the original language of Pāḷi [paːɭi] and translation in Thai language.
This brief clip shows four special guests, including H.E. the President of the Constitutional Court of Thailand who have been invited to lead the Recitation with HRH Princess Soamsavali.
