A study the upland rice planting procedure of agriculturist in the area of Phufah Pattana Centre Borklear district at Nan province.

This research has its main objective at explanning upland rice planting procedure of agriculturist in the area of Phufah Pattana Centre Borklear district at Nan province. Research tool was to participant observation and in-depth interview 13 agriculturists from Phasuke village and Haangtangloung village. The study shown that agriculturists start planing in rainy season or from May, and begin to harvest between October and November. The area preparation will be done by March to April. In present , the custom of planning upland rice was ignore by agriculturists. The most favor grain is Kaomork. Upland rice planting procedure begins with one person dig the soil to make 2-3 centimeters depth and 3-5 centimeters wdths holes with the tool that called “Lung”. The length between each hole was around 20 centimeters. Then the other person who follows the person who digs the soil drop 10 seeds into each hole without covering because thy believe that they will be covered by the rain. To sustain and develop soil condition, agriculturists use calcium hydroxide to improve and organic fertilizer to sustain the condition. The harvest will be once a year with the quantity of seeds between 1 to 2 Tai in each grains. Seeds were chosen from healthy ear of rice, the looks of external appearance, or from the taste. Beside, we also found that last year;s productivity was decreased due to soil degeneration causing from the stop of planting circulation as they did before, the lack of financial support for purchasing organic fertilizer to sustain the condition, and the low quantity if rain.
