How to Write a Research Proposal?

In writing research, the first and the most important step of the research process is the formulation of the research problem. It is like the identification of a destination before undertaking a journey. What I’ve learned, that is very significant is the fact that you must have a clear idea with regard to what it is that you want to find out about and not what you think you must find. After formulating the research problem, review of related literature is the next step. Some people do it as their first step to have more idea of what to write about. In my case, I consider it as the second step, as I knew already what the focus of my study is. In this step, you need to devote much of your time in reading, reading, and reading. The key to this step is being resourceful. There are many sources that a researcher may use in finding related literature and researches.

After the review of related literature, the first chapter or the introduction of the research proposal can now be written. In the introduction the different parts include: Rationale of the Study, Objectives of the Study, Statement of the problem, Significance of the Study, Scope of the Study, Limitation of the Study, Definition of terms, Conceptual Framework, and Hypothesis. In writing the introduction the following must be considered: it should provide background and motivation for the topic, it should describe the focus and purpose of the paper, and it should give an overview of what is contained in the paper’s various sections.

The third part of the research proposal is the methodology. This section gives the reader enough information to study the subject and to use your materials in his work if desired. Here you describe what you did, the way you did it, present precise facts; your work is based on. To easily undertake the research process some researcher includes conceptual methodology. This will give the researcher a clear picture of how the research process will transpire. This part will include the research instruments to be used.

The last part is the reference and appendix. References must be alphabetically arranged. Appendix may serve as a valuable addition to the research proposal. It may contain materials that are important for the approval of the proposal but they don’t find their place in the text itself.
