                         COFFEE HISTORY

      People have been eating and drinking coffee for thousands of years. Yes, eating! The Ethiopians discovered coffee around 600 years ago. They used coffee beans and animal fat as food on long journeys across Africa. The Arabs were the first to drink coffee. They found it helped

them stay awake while praying at night.

      Around 1600, people in Europe began to drink coffee.

One Dutch farmer decided to grow his own coffee. He started

a plantation on the island of Java in Indonesia. Soon farmers in

Central and South America were doing the same. Today, most

of the world’s coffee still comes from Africa, Central and South America and Indonesia.

       Medical studies say that three cups of coffee a day is OK. However, some people want to stop completely. Doctors say they should stop slowly. They should drink fewer cups of coffee each day for a week. People who stop too fast often get terrible headaches as a result.

    USING THE INTERNET TO FIND A JOB

The internet can show you thousands of job opening all over the  world. Use the words ‘job search’ or ‘employment’ to find the websites you need. Type in what you want and where you want to work. In a few  seconds, a list of will appear on the screen. Or you can type in the name

of company to learn about jobs there. Many websites list full-time, past-time, and summer jobs.

            Job search websites can help in other ways, too. They show how to write a good resume and how to prepare for an interview. They also tell you what to say to an interviewer on the telephone. Some websites give you sample interview words, such as ‘position’, and ‘requirements’

The taste for horse leg trousers, high thick shoes, and other trends has become fashionable again, especially among teenagers, after disappearing for decades.

The way of serving the meal makes parasites a problem. People know parasites can cause serious illness. However, they still enjoy having Japanese meals.

       It is important to bring the right clothes when you travel. If you are going to a cold country, you should bring warm clothes, Be sure you have a hat and gloves, too. If you are going to a hot country, you need different clothes. You do not want heavy or dark clothes. In hot weather, light clothes are best! If you are going to a city, you may need some nice clothes.  You may want to go to a special restaurant or a concert. It is different if you travel by bicycle in the country. Then you will want comfortable clothes. But one rule is the same for travellers. Do not bring too many clothes.

  The earth is always changing. One way it changes is by erosion. Some is caused by the weather. For example, the wind causes erosion. In a desert, the wind blows the sand around.

Rain also causes erosion. It washes away earth and even changes the shape of some rocks. Another kind of erosion is caused by rivers.When a river goes through a mountain, it cuts into it. After along time, the mountain is lower and the land is flatter.

      Finding the Main Idea  

In English paragraphs, the Main Idea will most likely be found in one of these five places:

• in the first sentence
• in the last sentence
• in the middle of the paragraph
• in two sentences of the paragraph
• not stated in the paragraph directly (implied) ถ้าตรงไม่พบต้องสรุปเอง

กลยุทธ์การอ่านจับใจความสำคัญ  (Skimming for Main Ideas)

Skimming คือ การอ่านอย่างรวดเร็วเพื่อจับใจความสำคัญ   (Main Ideas) ของสิ่งที่อ่านโดยนักเรียนอ่านข้ามรายละเอียด แต่จ้องจับความสำคัญของเรื่อง การอ่านประเภทนี้มักได้แก่ การอ่านบทความจากหนังสือพิมพ์ นิตยสาร  วารสาร(ตามแผงหรือร้านขายหนังสือ) และนวนิยาย การอ่านด้วยวิธีนี้ไม่จำเป็นต้องอ่านทุกคำหรือทุกประโยคแต่จะจับใจความเฉพาะคำสำคัญ (Key words) ที่จะบอกให้รู้เนื้อเรื่องที่อ่านทั้งหมดเกี่ยวกับอะไร (What is it all about?)

วิธีอ่านแบบ Skimming

1. อ่าน 2 – 3 ประโยคแรก และประโยคสุดท้ายของย่อหน้าแรกแล้วถามตัวเองว่าเนื้อเรื่องที่อ่านเกี่ยวกับอะไร

2. อ่านเฉพาะตัวสำคัญ (Key words) ซึ่งมักจะอยู่ตอนต้นหรือตอนท้ายของแต่ละย่อหน้า ที่ช่วยสนับสนุนให้
