The Presentation of The World Tipiṭaka in Roman Script
To The University of Washington 2010

Univeristy of Washington Received the World Tipitaka Edition 2010

 

On March 8, 2010, the complete 40-volume set of the World Tipitaka in Roman Script was presented to the University of Washington as a royal gift of Wisdom & Peace from the late Princess Galyani Vadhana of Thailand.

This publication of the 2010 World Tipitaka WebService Edition has been made possible by the University of Washington Alumni Association of Thailand and the Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand.

Over a century ago, the Tipitaka, then printed in a bookform-set for the first time in the world, was presented as a royal gift to no less than 50 institutions in USA by King Chulalongkorn Chulachomklao of Siam.

The Tipitaka was originally inscribed on palm-leave in various national scripts of the world for over two thousands years. It is the authoritative text of the Buddha's words which have been preserved in pristine purity in the Theravada tradition.

The 1893 printing of Chulachomklao of Siam Tipitaka Edition was therefore a great innovation and wisdombased-technology of the day to preserve the wisdom heritage of humanity which has been handed down through successive Tipitaka Councils.
