มีข่าวประเทศไทย June 10 (Bloomberg) -- Thailand, the world's largest rice exporter, plans to spend 322.7 billion baht ($9.8 billion) between next year and 2020 on irrigation to increase the acreage available for producing foods and biofuels.

The funding will help ensure that 6.42 million rais (2.54 million acres) of land has access to water supplies in the dry season, Wichianchote Sukchotrat, a government spokesman, said today at a press conference in Bangkok after a Cabinet meeting.

Global food output must rise 50 percent by 2030 to meet a projected jump in demand, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told an emergency summit earlier this month.
