The overuse of a chemical that helps fruit grow faster is causing a rash of exploding watermelons in eastern China.
An investigative report by China Central Television airing on Tuesday found farms in Jiangsu province were losing acres of fruit to the problem.
It said farmers sprayed too much growth promoter, hoping they could get fruit to market ahead of season and make more money.

- การปลูกแตงโม ในประเทศจีน กับประเทศไทย คงคล้ายกันตรงที่ใช้สารเคมี เพื่อต้องการรายได้มากๆ
- คงต้องปลูกเองแล้วค่ะ ถ้าอยากปลอดภัยจาการพิษ... แม้แต่ข้าว

Yes, it is the way of the world we live in.
Careful as we are, we just can't protect ourselves from 'money mongers (worshippers)'. To them and the (money) god they pray to 'what happen to you and others does not matter'.
What happen to you and others is NOT their problem. This is the culture -- the mindset of many people.
There are 'veggie growing groups' (that posted many articles on GoToKnow.org -- lately they seem to falter.
It would be good to 'grow our own food'.
It would also be very good to 'share our seeds'.
[Commercial seeds are often 'doctored' to grow for one generation only; seeds from commercial seeds won't grow!] Please search the Net for 'terminator technology on seeds' and find out who are doing 'this' and what companies in Thailand are selling terminated seeds to farmers. These companies also sell chemicals (also from China) to farmers. Many 'unregistered' and/or 'illegal' chemicals are likely to used on Thai farms -- Thai authorities are 'really' not upto the job they are assigned to do. [One may wonder if their reason for existence justifies our Tax money. But that is another aspect of the story ;-) ]

ตอนไปทานข้าวที่ประเทศจีน
เขานิยมกินของร้อน...เห็นเขาบอกว่า...กลัวพยาธิที่มาจากผัก
(พยาธิอาจมาสายตรงจากห้องสุขาที่ไหลลงราดแปลงผัก)
และผมก็ประหลาดใจมาก
ที่อาหารจานสุดท้าย คือ ผลไม้ ซึ่งผมนึกว่า เป็นส้ม ลูกพลับ หรือแอปเปิ้ล
แต่จริง ๆ เป็นแตงโม เพราะเขาถือว่า เป็นผลไม้ของพระราชา
และจริง ๆ แตงโม ที่เมืองไทยอร่อย หวาน และแดง กว่าแตงโมของประเทศจีน
อร่อยมากกว่าหลายเท่าก็ตาม แต่คนไทยที่ปลูกแตงโม เขาจะไม่ชอบกินแตงโมที่ตนเองปลูกครับ
สาเหตุคงมาจากบันทึกนี้นี่แหละครับ

น่าเป็นห่วงมากครับ อาหารพิษกำลังกระจายตัว ทั้งจากภายในและภายนอก จะทำอย่างไรดี?
Especially, when we read what the effects of certain chemicals can be to us now, to our reproductive system later, to our children in time to come, and what about our children's children?
Money comes and goes. The US print a lot of it lately. [They use most of it to buy shares and 'real estates' in global companies -- people, ordinary people don't get to see the newly printed money much. Many other countries now have a lot of (worthless?) instead of their lands and goods. How much of Thailand's stocks and shares are sold for USD? How much farmland have been sold for US concerns? We all know why gold prices are up. Because printed USD has no 'real value' and they use it to buy 'real things'. How stupid can get? What is value of money? What is Life?]
