It is the time for school term 1 of 2567BE. Many young children will go to school for the first time too. Many parents are looking at the costs to equip their children for school. [Education is free in Thailand, but to get to education is costly for many families. It is a pity that current government couldn't cut the ‘digital Bull’ and provide support for families sending children to school --straight away.]   

Anyway, let me offer a digital online/offline tool for helping young children to learn to write letters (หัดเขียนตัวหนังสือไทย).

The set contains other tools that mat be useful for learning. For examples to test eye sights, to test hearing, to test reaction time to help with reading, spelling, learning music and learning algorithms. More tools will be added as resources are available. The tool set is 'free' and 'open-source' but with copyright. This tool does not use robots nor collect users data.]  
 

This tool shows a list of Thai letters that can be selected by clicking (on laptop or PC) or tapping or touching a letter (on phone or tablet). The selected letter will be read aloud and shown in the big drawing area (above the list) with a big dot moving along the line that would write that letter. And if the mouse pointer enters the drawing area, the letter then draws itself in different colour with the the dot doing the same thing but at different speed. Here we have a race between the line and the dot to draw the letter.
 
Children can follow the big dot or the line with a finger to learn to write a letter. Transferring finger motion into pencil motion should now be less time consuming for parents and teachers to teach children to write letters.

This tool is not 'perfect' for everyone. You can make suggestions and report of 'issues' on https://github.com/sr12zar/KoKho/issues  .
 
It is hoped that by using this tool, we would have made more time to create more and better lessons or contents for children. The tool is not meant to be 'a child minder' (to look after the learning of children by themselves), but rather to be used as a play-and-learn object for more interactions between children and parents or 'minders'. 
 

#Note 1# Had this tool been developed by Ministry of Education? If 20 hours (at 2 letters/hour) are spent on teaching how to draw letters then some 9.2 million hours could be saved or used for other class activities. This means we could have __savings of some 500 million Baht nationwide per year__ .

Now that I have done it, we can use it, assess the result on children and savings for parents and schools. Would government offices start on other tools to make savings somewhere else?
