Hemorrhagic fever is still an importance public health problem in Thailand. Control of Aedes larvae con prevent and control hemorrhagic fever. This study was designed as a Quasi-Experimental Research in order to determine the effectiveness of using the intervention of community empowerment in control of Aedes larvae. The experimental group was composed of 14 villages, 9 temples and 8 schools with 72 community leaders. The control group was composed of 14 villages, 13 temples and 10 schools with 80 community leaders. The effectiveness was determined by using Breteau Index (BI), Container Index (CI) and knowledge, atttude and practice (KAP) and statistically analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test.
The study results revealed the following. After the intervention for 5 months, it was found that both the BI amd CI values reduced in experiment group and lower than the control group significantly (P<0.05). After the intervention, the KAP in the experiment group was improved and more than the control group significantly (P<0.05). However, the practice in the experimental group and in the control group was not significantly different (p>0.05).
In conclusion, this study indicated that using the intervention of empowerment in the community was significantly effective in controlling of Aedes larves. Their Aedes larvae index and KAP were found improved by the intervention program. This result could be significant for further use or implementation in control of Dengue virus.
