การใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ ที่ถือว่าถูกต้องนี้ อ้างอิงตามมาตรฐานของภาษา

เมื่อใช้เป็น กริยา

ถ้าต้องการ “try to do” บางสิ่ง หมายถึง “ใช้ความพยายามที่จะทำสิ่งนั้น”

‘My sister tried to cheer me up.’

‘He was trying his best to understand.’

สามารถใช้ “try and do” บางสิ่ง ได้ด้วย โดยความหมายไม่แตกต่าง

หากแต่ใช้ “try and do” เพียงในการสนทนาและการเขียนไม่เป็นทางการ

เมื่อใช้เป็นทางการ ที่ถูกต้องใช้ว่า “try to do”

‘Try and see how many of these questions you can answer.’

‘Please try and help me to cope with this.’

‘We must try and understand.’

ข้อควรระวัง:

สามารถใช้ “and” ตามหลัง “try” ได้เพียงแต่เมื่ออยู่ในรูปพื้นฐานเท่านั้น

เช่น อย่าใช้ว่า “I was trying and help her” หรือ “I was trying and helping her”

ถ้าคุณ “try doing” บางสิ่ง หมายถึง “คุณทำสิ่งนั้นเพื่อให้รู้ว่ามัน

มีประโยชน์/ประสิทธิภาพหรือน่าสนุกสนาน แค่ไหน” เช่น

‘He tried changing the subject.’

‘Have you ever tried painting.’
