A cake manufactured in China by the Japanese-South Korean confectionery maker Lotte was found to have contained melamine, the toxin behind a Chinese milk contamination scandal, Hong Kong authorities said Wednesday.
The Center for Food Safety said the Lotte Cream Cheese Cake sample, with a best-before date of July 17, 2009, tested positive for melamine at a level of 3.4 parts per million, exceeding the legal limit of 2.5 ppm.
