Alcohol abuse costs NSW taxpayers more than $1 billion a year, an auditor-general's report has found.

NSW Auditor-General ... says this equates to $416 per household, with the largest cost being NSW Police, followed by child protection services and NSW Health....
'Drunkenness is like a parasite drawing the very lifeblood out of government services,' ...'My concern is that the NSW government does not know the full cost of alcohol abuse - at best cost information is fragmented,' he said.
He recommended that the cost of alcohol abuse be estimated and reported every three years 'so government and the public know whether the problem is getting better or worse'. ... where appropriate, alcohol abusers should pay for taking valuable resources away from more pressing work....'The bottom line is - the community should not have to continue to pay such a high price for the impacts of alcohol abuse,' he said in the report....if social costs, such as productivity at work, were included the total cost of alcohol abuse was about $3.87 billion a year. This equates to $1565 for each household.

[This is another part of a game to hone decision making. It costs nothing to play and we get rewarded by our decisions that we make ourselves. Have fun!]

That's somewhat sad isn't it Wasawat Deemarn ?

I wonder what is the cost of Thai language deficiency for Thais in Thailand. May MOE or some NGOs can give ideas.
