[It seems  gas mining (by fracking) is more destructive environmentally than ungly open-cut coal mining and now using gas seems to be of marginal benefits too. Solar and wind powers look much better (but not nicer -- yet). ]

Do you think it is time for Thailand to have nuclear power plants ?

If we play the number game, nuclear power plants may come out on top by return of investment. But let us ask a few questions:

Do we have nuclear scientists/technologists that can design a plant? oversee construction of such plant? devise work/process procedures? oversee training of operators and auditors? conduct and verify nuclear fuel purchases? design nuclear waste facilities and management? design and oversee construction nuclear cooling systems? monitor and manage coolant releases?...?

There are a lot of questions which we may not find answers from Thai nuclear experts. So Thailand would need to buy in technologies and hire foreign experts and operators, ... the safety of Thais is under 'external' control and practices. It may take many years for Thailand to acquire necessary skills and aptitudes to operate a nuclear power plant safely and properly. Lessaons from USA, Ukrain and recently Japan should warn us against playing with high risk, high impact and no-turning-back techologies with high persistent wastes. Especially in environment of high corruption and low work ethics.

Let us look for safer technologies. Let us play with windmills, solar converters, biomass,  fermentation, fuel cells, hydrogen engines, etc. We have to engage our best minds in innovative and more earth- or life-friendly endeavours and not to waste our good money buying expensive toys for our chilfren.

  อนึ่ง โรงไฟฟ้าขนาดใหญ่กับเล็กก็มีทั้งข้อดีและข้อเสีย เช่น ขนาดใหญ่ราคาต่อ Unit จะถูกกว่า แต่ต้องเสียค่าขนส่ง ค่าสายส่ง หากเกิดขัดข้องจะกระทบกระเทือนต่อระบบมากกว่าขนาดเล็ก กระผมจึงเห็นด้วยกับคุณเปลว ๑๐๐%....   นายน่าเบื่อ
