Dear ยายธี: It is quite disheartening to see our efforts to 'do the right thing' is rewarded by scoundrels. They are like cancers in our society. They are killing themselves in blind ignorance and killing us in careless attitude. And like cancer treatments, we have to be very mindful of several factors, so that the treatments don't kill us before cancers do. Thai society today is inflected by so many 'diseases' of the body and the mind. The corruption culture and the lack of 'disciplinary habit' are wide spread and growing. Compounded by the 'none of my business' mindset, problems are left to grow BIG and BIG problems are money making machines for some. Because of that BIG problems are often scrubbed (not solved) and then fed (to fatten up) so that they provide more money for a longer time.
But let me talk about Songkran 2015 another Thai New Year. A time for joy, family and friends get-together to witness the survival of each other through the past year's miseries and fortunes, to welcome the first rain for new planting season and the cycle of life to begin anew again. You and I know after many seasons of rains, we have not yet seen the best nor the worst of man, especially of our close neigbours and friends. Neither, have we stopped being surprised by what generations of people can do. What is Songkran? A change over, a new hope, a new position and a new time to see things -- all over again. Let us be thankful for our remaining senses and thinking faculties. We will hear, see, smell, feel, taste and understand our lives and our mind in this changing world.
I wish you a happy Songkran and a joyous new year.
This goes to all readers -- yes, you too ;-)
