I note two examples of occupational therapy research for Thai health professionals to make a plan to solve the problem as mentioned above.
First example
From http://www.usc.edu/assets/ot/faculty/research/2.html
Drs. Clark and Zemke, Principal Investigators; Dr. Jeanne Jackson, Co-Principal Investigator (1997): The Well Elderly Study conducted by the University of Southern California from 1994 through 1996 made a number of notable contributions in the research on occupational therapy and its effect on the aging population. The largest outcomes research study conducted in the field to-date, results of this research were published as the first occupational therapy study to appear in the Journal of the American Medical Association (10/97). Detailed information on the Lifestyle Redesign intervention utilized in the Well Elderly Study can be obtained in the 1999 publication Lifestyle Redesign: Implementing the Well Elderly Study.
Second example
Some statements in a critically appraised paper from Australian Occupational Therapy Journal (2003) 50, 109-110 by Margaret Wallen & Mandy Stanley. They summarised and discussed on a current paper written by Clark, F., Azen, S.P., Carlson, M., Mandel, D., Labree, L., Zemke, R., Jackson, J. & Lipson, L. (2001). Embedding health-promotion changes into the daily lives of independent-living older adults: Long-term follow-up of occupational therapy intervention. Journal of Gerontology, 56B(1); 60-63.
"Enhanced health and well-being as a result of occupational therapy intervention aimed at enabling older adults to embed health-promoting changes into their daily routines were largely maintained 6 months following completion of the intervention." p. 110.
p. 109: three groups were designed in this study: 1) Occupational therapy intervention group - weekly group sessions for 9 months, aimed at assisting participants to improve health practices and increase their engagement in personally meaningful activities; 2) social activity control group: weekly group session for 9 months involving craft, films, outings, etc. to control for programme involvement, and 3) no-treatment control group.
p. 110: an important feature of the study was the tailoring of intervention for individuals, which presents a challenge to occupational therapists needing to provide services to larger numbers of older people...the results from this study have implications for policy makers, as well as individual occcupational therapists.
